As a pioneer in various administrative capacities, including Sub-Dean of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, and subsequently serving as Chief Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Professor Alonge has demonstrated exceptional leadership and administrative acumen.

 

Throughout his career, Professor Alonge has been at the forefront of innovation and research in orthopedics and trauma surgery. His groundbreaking work includes the formulation of the Ceftriaxone-Polymethylmethacrylate antibiotic bead for treating chronic osteomyelitis and the design of the Alonge-Wale intra-operative antibiotic bead maker, facilitating the production of patient-specific antibiotic beads.

 

His research endeavors have also extended to geriatric care, where he established the first Geriatric Center and Geriatric Rehabilitation Center in Africa at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, addressing the unique healthcare needs of the elderly population in the region.

 

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Alonge played a pivotal role in Oyo State’s containment and treatment efforts. As the chair of the COVID-19 Technical Task Force, he oversaw the management of infectious disease centers and assisted in the establishment and equipping of isolation and treatment centers across the state, demonstrating his commitment to public health and crisis management.
