Dr. Adebayo Adepoju (Ibarapa kan) hails from the city of Igboora, a city popularly known for its numerous twin births and famously called the twin capital of the world in the Ibarapa region of Oyo state. Igboora hosts the headquarters of Ibarapa Central Local government area of Oyo state, about 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Lagos state, Nigeria. Ibarapa Kan’s paternal roots can be traced to the famous Jagun family of Iberekodo, and his maternal roots can be traced to the Jegun family of Oke-Iserin, Igboora. Ibarapa Kan is currently a member of the House of Representatives representing Ibarapa Central/ Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, Oyo State.

 

Ibarapa Kan is a dependable, trustworthy, organised, and hardworking member of Parliament elected under the umbrella of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP). He is an unrepentant and staunch GSM follower with impressive professional, philanthropic, legislative, and academic credentials. He is an experienced political strategist, business/IT manager, accountant, and project management professional who has brought much value to Nigeria’s ever-dynamic socio-political and academic landscape. Adebayo Adepoju has served in several capacities, and he has been recognized and honoured for his meritorious service, transformational leadership skills, and overall impact on humanity in Nigeria and internationally.

 

Ibarapa Kan has distinguished himself as a scholar and expert in conflict centred around work and family, with journal publications to his credit. Academically, he has excelled and projected himself among the well-read of our time. He earned his doctoral degree at the prestigious J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University, USA. Other qualifications include a professional MBA, a Master’s (MSc) degree in management with a specialization in Project management, a Bachelor’s (BSc) degree in accounting, a graduate diploma (PGD) in financial management, Higher National Diploma (HND), and National Diploma (OND) in accounting. He is a qualified member of the world-renowned Project Management Professionals (PMP) and an information Technology audit expert. Other academic associations include the National Society of Leadership and Success, The Society for Collegiate Leadership and Achievement (SCLA), and the Golden Key International Honour Society.

 

As a philanthropist, he has positively touched several lives and communities around the globe. He is known to constantly give back to humanity as a way of saying thank you for the gift of life by empowering people. Some of his philanthropic gestures include several scholarship programs for students at all levels of education, the purchase of WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB forms for several indigent students of Ibarapa land, engagement of all high school students in Ibarapa central/North in fully paid coaching classes during holidays, recognition of all first-class graduates in his community to encourage excellence in academics. Others are the building of classrooms in the Ibarapa community and the ongoing construction of a lawn tennis court in the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology Igboora to encourage sports and identify talents while learning, to mention but a few.

 

As a Federal legislator, Dr Adepoju has raised several Motions, sponsored Bills, and laid public Petitions with a national scope. Some of these Motions include:

 

 

MOTIONS

  1. A motion on the need to safeguard the academic pursuits of Nigerian medical students in Ukraine (Tuesday, July 25, 2023). In the Motion, the lawmaker urged the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to reconsider its position in the spirit of nation-building and allow the Nigerian Medical Graduates of 2022 from Ukraine to have their medical certificate considered for practice to prevent waste of time and resources by the students.

 

  1. Motion on the need for government urgent intervention to protect hapless Nigerians from discrimination and apparent apartheid policies in the hands of foreign nationals/employers (Thursday, July 27, 2023). In this Motion, calls were made on the urgent need of the Nigerian government to be more alive to its responsibility to protect Nigerians, especially the masses, from abuse of their constitutional rights as citizens.

 

  1. Motion on the need to investigate and resume construction of the Abandoned New Abeokuta-Igboora/Lanlate/Igangan 132/33 KV Double Circuit Transmission Line awarded in 2009 at the sum of one billion, nine hundred and thirty-four million, one hundred and twenty-nine thousand, four hundred and twenty-one naira, and two kobo (N1,934,129,421,02). The Motion was raised on the floor of the House of Representatives on Thursday, October 26, 2023. In the Motion, he urged the Rural Electrification Agency to probe the projects, the disbursements, the completion stage, and why the project had not been delivered beyond the June 2021 completion date and ensure the successful and timely delivery of the project in the Ibarapa Central, North, and East Constituencies of Oyo State.

 

BILLS:

He has sponsored two Bills at the National Assembly of Nigeria, and they are:

 

  1. A Bill for an Act to Establish the Institute of Economists of Nigeria 2023. (PASSED)
  2. Federal Medical Centres Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (HB.799), first reading, November 1, 2023.

The Bill for an Act to Establish the Institute of Economists of Nigeria 2023 was passed and sent to the Senate for concurrent early December 2023, while the Bill on Federal Medical Centre Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (HB.799) was also passed and sent to the Senate for concurrent on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

 

PUBLIC PETITIONS:

An appeal to the Honourable House to intervene to right the continuing injustice against some employees of the University College (UCH) Ibadan, Oyo State. The petition was signed by ten members of staff, representing about 70 employees who have not been paid for more than 33 months. The appeal’s goal, as read by the lawmaker, is to ensure that the employees are paid for their service and treated fairly and with maximum respect.
